The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Anger Regarding Sizing Changes
Shoppers are voicing their frustration following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with similar services.
It has advised users to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Updates
Previously, the sizing featured one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Stories
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
A different member, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, located in England, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: earlier, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options after backlash from users.
