Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The ex-president was convicted of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he remained under confinement pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after recent developments emerged.

This involved trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a public vigil that could "allow for a potential flight.

Judicial Records Show Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the judge said data from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the surveillance device to ensure success in his flight.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a senator, called for a gathering of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.

His son wrote on digital networks on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or see it all from your smartphone there on your settee? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so backers could "pray for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."

Part of the judge's decision was the potential of the former president's "relocation to foreign missions near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a record of planning to seek refuge through a embassy office", a statement said.

Context of Sentencing
